Love God. Love Others. Grow in Grace.
Jesus didn’t bring us a new religion. He brought a new way of life. It’s a way of life that’s intensely practical, impacts the way we live in Granite Falls, NC, and flows out of three big ideas: loving God, loving others, and growing in grace.
Loving God is our first and most important calling. When someone asked Jesus what the most important commandment was, he responded, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Everything we do for God is an expression of love for him. But we make our love known to him, others, and ourselves most clearly through acts of corporate and private worship.
Loving others is the second greatest commandment, according to Jesus. In fact, he told his disciples that there was nothing greater than learning to truly love God and love others. As followers of Jesus, we long to love people like he did. This means that we live a life of service, forgiveness, peacemaking, and witness to the truth of the Gospel and its transforming power in Granite Falls, Hickory, Lenoir, and our surrounding communities.
Growing in grace is another way of talking about spiritual maturity. The Church exists to help all of her members grow up into “the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Eph 4:13). We become more like Jesus by meeting him in the means of grace that he has given us, including: prayer, Scripture meditation and study, fasting, communion, sharing our faith, and doing good.
